CONNECTING TO YOUR WIRELESS
ROUTER (Windows Vista)
For your security and ours, your wireless router may be configured in one of
two ways.
A. Will not be broadcasting his SSID.
B. Will require a WEP key to gain access.
This prevents people from driving by your house and gaining access to your computers
in your house.
A. Not broadcasting SSID
In order to use this feature of your wireless router you will need to manually
add it to the wireless settings of your laptop.
Vista will not automatically find it when viewing available wireless networks.
Here are the basic steps to connect your laptop to your wireless router.
1.Click on the START/PERL button.
2.Click on CONNECT TO...
3.Under select a network to connect to...
Click on Setup a connection or network.
4.Click on Manually connect to wireless network.
5.Select your Wireless Adapter then click NEXT.
6.Under Network Name - Enter the SSID assigned at the time of install.
7.Under Security Type - Select No Auth/OPEN.
8.Under Encryption Type - None should be displayed.
9.Select - Start this connection automatically.
10.Click Next
Wait a couple of minutes for the connection to occur.
You may need to reboot to get VISTA to log on to your wireless router.
In some cases you will need to clear all the access points from the Preferred
Connections list leaving just only the one you added.
B. Require a WEP key.
1.Click on the START/PERL button.
2.Click on CONNECT TO...
3.Under select a network to connect to...
Click on the connection displayed usually matching your last name.
4.Click on the CONNECT button.
5.In a few seconds you will be asked to enter a WEP key or Passphrase. Enter the
WEP key given to you at the time of install.
This will usually be recorded on your service contract.
6.You may be asked to enter the key again for confirmation.
Wait a couple of minutes for the connection to occur.
You may need to reboot to get VISTA to log on to your wireless router.
In some cases you will need to clear all the access points from the Preferred
Connections list leaving just only the one you added.
